2010 Merchandise

It's name is Mukmuk. He's not a mascot he's a sidekick. What a sidekick! This little plush toy right here actually makes me want to spend money on him. So cute!!!

2010 Wallpapers

Yes... My wallpaper is totally the Curling one!
I love curling.

2010 Mascots

                  Sumi                   Quatchi         Miga

I love these mascots. Okay I love any mascots that actually look like something... Sure 2 of them are a bit of an odd mishmash but they're something not totally made up and weird looking. I like these guys a bit better than the Beijing ones because there are only 3. I am a fan of a small group. Plus all of them are really unique and have their own special strengths. In case you were wondering... Miga is definitely my favorite!! A seabear - part killer whale and part bear??? Adorable!!!

2010 Medal Design

The medals of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games are circular in shape and based on a large master artwork of an orca whale by Corrine Hunt, a Canadian designer/artist of Komoyue and Tlingit heritage. Each of the medals has a unique hand-cropped section of the abstract art, making every medal one-of-a-kind. The medals were revealed on Thursday, October 15, 2009.

Ever since the Torino Olympics in 2006 I have really gotten into the medal designs. I think because I was so moved by the artist's reasoning behind the ones that year. Following those were the exquisite metal and jade works for Beijing and now these from Vancouver. I was a bit stunned by their look at first but the rippled shape of them is just beautiful. I didn't post the ones for the Paralympic Games but they are a rounded square with a similar ripple. I never would have thought of anything like this!

2010 Torch Design

Contours of Canadian Winters
The torch design has fluid lines and elegant form. Designers were inspired by long horizons, graceful snowdrifts and delicate shadows that form the contours of a Canadian winter landscape. The shape also emulates the journey that will be traced by the torch relay across Canada and the lines carved by winter sport, such as ski tracks in fresh snow or the line left from a skate blade on ice.
Admittedly, I don't like this Torch as much as the Beijing one, I think the cohesiveness of the Beijing Olympic materials was what really attracted me. However, that being said the Beijing designers didn't have to design to survive the Canadian winter. I really like the way the flame emerges from it.

Welcome

So I love the Olympics. Maybe you do too??  Chime right on in. I'm starting with the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics. I would have done this for Beijing but I was surrounded by all the people I loved talking Olympics to so... I didn't need a blog!

Let's have a lot of fun!
